My Story

Meet Joel R. Rivera – A Proven Advocate for the 13th District
Joel R. Rivera is a passionate and experienced leader running for City Council in the 13th District of the Bronx. With a career rooted in public service and community empowerment, Joel has served as a Community Relations Associate in the Office of Community Relations under New York City Comptroller John C. Liu, and as a Community Outreach Coordinator for the Bronx Overall Economic Development Corporation. He is also the founder and former Executive Director of Servicing Our Youth (SOY), a nonprofit dedicated to uplifting local youth through education and mentorship.

Joel’s dedication to civic engagement is backed by a history of hands-on leadership. He has served as Vice Chair of the Bronx Democratic County Committee, Community Liaison for City Councilman Adolfo Carrión Jr., and as a Field Operations Supervisor for both the U.S. Census Bureau and FEMA. A proud product of New York City’s public school system, Joel attended LaGuardia and Talent Unlimited High Schools before earning his degree from George Washington University.

Through decades of experience, Joel has been on the front lines of the fight for paid sick leave, living wages, quality education, affordable housing, and healthcare. He understands the unique challenges facing Bronx residents and is committed to being a strong, responsive voice for the 13th District.
